Birdsong is a London based womenswear brand that manufacture with expert East London women’s groups. The labels aim is to connect women from worker to wearer employing migrant seamstresses and knitting grannies to give these often isolated women a sense of community, confidence and purpose.
Birdsong knitwear, featured at The Maiyet Collective, is handmade by older women at the Age UK day centre, Kingston and Knit and Natter, Enfield. Both locations provide a safe, social space for these women
to utilise a skill that is a proven preventative, meditative cure for arthritis and dementia. In a generous act, the makers choose to donate money generated by sales back to charities of their choice.
Since inception, Birdsong campaigns feature no Photoshop and are often modelled on activists or the makers themselves.
