By 2050 our oceans will have more plastic than fish by weight. These sunglasses are made to last but won't hurt the Earth.

Introducing our first ever eco-friendly sunglasses, SHADES by Maiyet.

Handmade in Japan, the sunglasses are made with 100% biodegradable Mazzucchelli cellulose acetate. This capsule was born of a collaboration between Maiyet and landscape designer, Lily Kwong.

M49 is a Cellulose Acetate - the most widely spread organic compound in nature, produced from cotton and wood-pulp fibres - manufactured under a new formulation using substances from renewable sources. M49 keeps all the aesthetical and performance characteristics of the traditional acetate; it can be worked without modifying the productive process of the frame.

"When I connected with the developer, I dove into their epic archive of thousands of vintage sunglasses that spans decades. We set out to create a sustainable frame that captured the timelessness and elegance of Maiyet. The frames are handmade in a family-run factory in Japan, and you can feel the quality and attention to detail in every piece." Lily Kwong
